Growing an American Skin explores the complexities of becoming and belonging within the American cultural landscape. It reflects on the negotiation of identity, where inclusion often requires adaptation, and reinvention becomes a form of survival. The work uses “skin” as a metaphor for both protection and vulnerability—speaking to the emotional layers formed through assimilation, resistance, and self-definition. It invites viewers to consider what is gained, altered, or lost in the process of being seen, accepted, and understood..
