Chasing Giants (we cary what carries Us)

Chasing Giants reflects the cultural inheritance and responsibility carried across generations by African migrants. It considers migration not simply as movement across borders, but as the act of carrying ancestral aspirations, cultural memory, knowledge, and identity into new landscapes. The “giants” represent both those who came before us and the values, sacrifices, and unfinished aspirations they leave behind. Their presence becomes a measure of purpose, asking each generation to negotiate what must be preserved, what can be transformed, and what may be left behind as we build lives beyond the places we call home.

It proposes that ancestral responsibility is not fulfilled through remembrance alone, but through active stewardship—carrying inherited histories forward while allowing them to evolve through new experiences. For the migrant, becoming is therefore both personal and intergenerational: we pursue our own possibilities while carrying fragments of lives imagined before us. Through this continuous negotiation between inheritance and transformation, the work considers how we honor those who made our journeys possible while accepting the responsibility to build upon what they began and become “giants” for those who will follow.
